Firewood Permit Requirements in the Yukon

In the Yukon, the Forest Management Branch issues, but does not charge for a personal use fuel wood permits. The fuel wood permit entitles the holder to harvest up to 11 cords per year for personal use firewood.

The Yukon requires that applications be made at your local Compliance, Monitoring & Inspections office. Unlike the 80 day wait of Nova Scotia, The Yukon Permits are done immediately, and will outline all conditions for the permit holder.

Areas to be harvested is one of the conditions of the permit. You will be provided a map that is paired with your permit. It is entirely the responsibility of the permit holder to ensure the understanding of all the conditions of the permit, including the authorized location that the harvesting is taking place.

Permits must be carried with the permit holder at all times while cutting and transporting wood in the Yukon.

Failure to possess or produce an authorized permit or or not complying to a permit’s conditions while harvesting firewood can result in fines, confiscation of the wood, and possibly charges being laid.
