Wood Fireplace vs Gas Fireplace
Convenience is King, as we have all heard that cliché, and for the most part, it’s true; but in the case of burning wood or burning gas in your fireplace, I am going to have to disagree.
While gas is convenient and as easy as a flick of a switch, it pales in comparison to the whole experience of using a wood Fireplace.
Every step that one must take to have, maintain, and enjoy a wood fireplace is worth every second!
From the superior heat that wood radiates; to the natural smell – A wood fireplace creates in us feelings of security, comfort, and nostalgia. While I know we are all busy these days, I do feel it is important to remember the little things in life that give us these good feelings; and taking a bit of time and making a bit of effort for the things that count can reward us in numerous ways. Every step that one must take to have, maintain, and enjoy a wood fireplace is worth every second!
Enter the experience of burning wood in your wood fireplace! Everyone of your senses is involved: You smell the woodsy aroma saturate the air, you listen to the crack and snap of the wood, you watch the dance of flames flicker along the wood, and the amber colors cascade across your room. Most of us can recall occasions when the weather was bitter cold outside yet it did not matter one bit while you could sit in a comfy chair and stay warm and safe by the fireplace. It truly is a whole experience that gas burning simply does not give.
On a practical note; one can heat a much larger room with wood over gas. The heat radiates outwards into the room and lingers warming you to the core. You do need to keep putting wood on the fire but again, that is all part of the experience we enjoy. I can watch and stoke a fire for hours in the same fashion I watch my favorite Television shows. The flickering flames, with their unpredictable movements is mesmerizing and relaxing – I truly become hypnotized.
Another fantastic benefit is the exercise you get by cutting the wood and moving the wood from outside into your home. The fact one must actually go out of doors to acquire the wood is nothing but a perk considering so many of us live sedentary indoor lifestyles, which we know is doing nothing for our health.
So yes, I love convenience like the next person, and my life is as busy as yours; but given the choice of burning gas or wood; wood will win with me hands down every time! It is the curling up in my favorite chair, reading my latest good read, and falling asleep as the warmth and ambiance of a wood burning fire lulls me to sleep.
It seems to be very difficult in this hectic world to find a sanctuary; but one can find such a place if they look and I always find it when I gather my wood and enjoy an evening around the fireplace.
